Promotion Standards

At McNamara Elementary, we follow the Houston ISD promotion standards to ensure all students are prepared for success at the next grade level. Promotion is based on a combination of academic performance and attendance.

✅ To be promoted, students must:

• Meet the state requirement of overall yearly grade average of 70 or above and local requirement of a grade average of 70 or above in core classes:

  • Reading/Language Arts

  • Mathematics

  • Science

  • Social Studies

• Attend school regularly: Students must not miss more than 10% of school days unless absences are excused and made up according to district policy.

📝 Important Notes:

• Attendance includes both excused and unexcused absences.

• Excessive absences may result in loss of credit—even if academic standards are met.

• Parents are encouraged to communicate with the school regarding absences and to schedule vacations or appointments outside of school hours whenever possible.
