Promotion Standards
At McNamara Elementary, we follow the Houston ISD promotion standards to ensure all students are prepared for success at the next grade level. Promotion is based on a combination of academic performance and attendance.
✅ To be promoted, students must:
- Meet the state requirement of overall yearly grade average of 70 or above and local requirement of a grade average of 70 or above in core classes:
-
Reading/Language Arts
-
Mathematics
-
Science
-
Social Studies
-
-
Attend school regularly: Students must not miss more than 10% of school days unless absences are excused and made up according to district policy.
📝 Important Notes:
-
Attendance includes both excused and unexcused absences.
-
Excessive absences may result in loss of credit—even if academic standards are met.
-
Parents are encouraged to communicate with the school regarding absences and to schedule vacations or appointments outside of school hours whenever possible.
If you have questions about your child’s academic progress or attendance, please reach out to their teacher or the school counselor. We’re here to help every Mustang stay on track!
