HISD Code of Conduct
The Houston Independent School District has established as one of its primary goals the provision of a high- quality educational program for each student in a safe school environment free of disruptions that interfere with the educational process. The purpose of this Code of Student Conduct is to inform all students and parents of their rights and responsibilities and HISD’s expectations regarding behavior and conduct. The Code, reviewed and approved by the HISD Board of Education, is based on federal and state laws and the policies of the Board of Education and Administrative Regulations. Administrative regulations communicate District procedures and practices in the contexts of Board policy, federal law, and state law.
This Code was developed to protect the rights of all students by:
- providing a districtwide discipline management plan,
- specifying the behavior that is expected of all students,
- describing the range of student misconduct and providing appropriate disciplinary consequences or options for the various forms of misconduct,
- outlining student rights relating to school participation, and
- listing procedures that must be followed when applying consequences.
HISD staff, students, and parents/guardians are expected to become familiar with and abide by the provisions of the Code of Student Conduct and the rules and regulations adopted and implemented by individual schools based on their School-Based Discipline Management System.

Arrival and Dismissal Procedures
π Arrival & Dismissal Procedures
The safety of our students is our top priority. Please follow these arrival and dismissal guidelines carefully to ensure a safe, smooth, and respectful process for everyone.
π Arrival Procedures
-
School begins promptly at 7:30 AM. Students should arrive no later than 7:25 AM so they’re ready to start learning on time.
-
Breakfast is served in the classroom, so arriving late means students may miss breakfast and valuable instructional time.
-
All students must be dropped off on the school-side of the street. For safety reasons, do not allow your child to cross the street, even if accompanied by an adult.
π¦ Dismissal Procedures

β Traffic Safety Reminders
To keep our students, staff, and neighbors safe:

Do NOT block driveways or park in neighbors’ yards.
-
Do NOT make U-turns on McAvoy Dr. or Jason St.
-
Do NOT leave your vehicle while in the car line—stay in your car.
-
Respect all posted signs, including No Parking zones and fire hydrants.
Let’s work together to model respect and responsibility during arrival and dismissal every day.
Breakfast and Lunch
We’re proud to offer free breakfast and lunch to all students through Houston ISD’s participation in the School Breakfast Program (SBP) and the National School Lunch Program (NSLP).
Breakfast is served daily in the classroom, so it’s important for students to arrive on time to start their day with a healthy meal and be ready to learn.
All meals meet federal nutrition guidelines and are designed to give students the fuel they need for success—at no cost to families.
